Course overview
The purpose of this program is to provide Anesthetic technician/Technologist, middle health manpower to work with Anesthetist physicians and nurses in carrying out hospital theatre procedures.
The program is being designed to expose students to both theoretical and clinical training in blocks. Clinical training is fully under Anesthesia department of the Federal Medical Center, Bida, Niger State and other approved hospitals to broaden the trainee’s workings in an operating theatre
Minimum Entry Requirement
Candidate must have 5 O’level credit at not more than two sittings in GCE/NECO/WASC/NABTEB, which must include English Language, Mathematics, Biology/Health Sciences, Chemistry and Physics.

The program runs for three (3) years (6 semesters) with both clinical and classes on the formal training
Objective of the program
At the end of the programme, the students are expected to be able to:
I. Assist with the application of various types of Anesthetic equipment
II. Sterilizing and clearing of Anesthetic equipment
III. Troubleshooting, maintenance and recording of inspection for equipment
IV. Assembling and calibrating medical devices for use.
V. Ensure the participation for effective team work during theatre procedures.
VI. Ensure safe clinical practice under supervision of the Anesthesiologists.
VII. Ensure application of appropriate concepts and competencies during theatre procedure under supervision.
Career opportunities
· 1. The graduate works under the direct supervision of an anesthetist/ Anesthesiologists
· 2. Employment is usually found with a hospital operating suite, intensive care units, a community hospital or multi-specialty hospitals.
