On 14th September 2014, a bold vision took root in Minna, Niger State—the vision of establishing a world-class health institution that would bridge the gap left by overstretched government-owned colleges. That vision, driven by the foresight of its Founder and Executive Director, Mallam Hassan Nuhu (Mayanan Minna), gave birth to Newgate College of Health Technology, Minna.

Eleven years on, the College stands tall as the pioneer privately-owned tertiary health institution in North Central Nigeria, with an impact that extends far beyond the city of Minna.

A Vision that Opened Doors

At a time when thousands of young Nigerians struggled to secure places in public health institutions, Mallam Hassan Nuhu provided a lifeline. He established an institution rooted in access, quality, and discipline—offering hope to a teeming population of youths who yearned for a future in healthcare.

Since inception, Newgate has produced over 5,000 graduates, many of whom now serve with distinction across Nigeria’s health sector—in hospitals, laboratories, clinics, and public health departments. They remain living proof of the Founder’s enduring vision and commitment.

Credibility and Recognition

Newgate’s reputation rests on trust, compliance, and excellence. The College is fully licensed by JAMB, ensuring nationwide access for applicants. More significantly, it is proudly recognized by the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) as the only Corps-producing privately-owned health tertiary institution in Niger State.

Through its Higher National Diploma (HND) programmes, Newgate graduates proudly participate in the NYSC scheme—an honour that underscores the College’s credibility and vital role in national development.

These milestones reflect Newgate’s unwavering dedication to its guiding motto: “Knowledge, Excellence and Character.”
